The responses I have created for Aryes is a acrylic painting on both paper and canvas. needle felting and sugar stuck on cardboard which I painted over.
The paper one I have created in my sketchbook and have used warm bold colours which is different from my previous sketch books. I used a plain paintbrush and mixed colours together to create a varied pattern.
On the canvas I have also used acrylic paint and mixed colours together. However to add a different texture to the response in my sketchbook I covered the canvas in glue which was made the response not as one dimensional.
The needle felting I did by hand and used as many different colours as I could and then mounted them onto paper then added them to my sketchbook.
Finally the cardboard and sugar I added the sugar by using PVA glue and leaving it to dry. I then sponged paint onto the cardboard. This is one of my favourite response to Aryes as I think the textures are unusual and this is a new technique i haven't used before.
Colour and Emotion

Gillian Ayres
Gillian Ayres is a American artist who uses colour to portray different emotions. I have chose to study her because I like the way she mixes various colours together to create a certain effect. Also I think that because of the bold, bright colours it stands out compared to other artists given in the Colour and Emotion brief. I will do a range of responses to this artist so I can give my work more depth which is something I sometimes struggle with.
